Sara Green
Associate Professor
Dr. Green, associate professor of Sociology at the University of South Florida, has worked tirelessly for the advancement of the sociology of disability. Dr. Green is best known for shaping the literature on parenting and disability, but as a prolific scholar, she has published in many areas of disability. In the past two years alone she has co-authored Seriously Funny: Disability and the Paradoxical Power of Humor (Lynne Reinner, 2016) and co-edited Sociology Looking at Disability: What Did We Know and When Did We Know It? (Emerald Press, 2017). Moreover, her service record is truly exceptional. She has served as secretary-treasurer and then chair of the Disability and Society section of ASA since 2012. She has simultaneously served as co-chair of the ASA Committee on the Status of Persons with Disabilities in Sociology from 2013-2017. Through her service, teaching, and mentorship, Dr. Green has ushered in a new generation of scholars committed to the sociology of disability and fostered an infrastructure to support them in this endeavor. As such she has had a positive impact on the lives of many scholars and on the field more broadly that will last long into the future.
