Sanghoon Park

Professor

Sanghoon Park is a tenured Professor and Program Coordinator of the Learning Design and Technology program at the University of South Florida. His research focuses on enhancing learning experiences through instructional design and emerging technologies, specifically designing motivational interventions for online learners and exploring the implications of Augmented Reality (AR), virtual simulations, and AI-chatbots. With over 50 publications in top-tier journals like Computers and Education, Educational Technology Research and Development, and British Journal of Educational Technology, Dr. Park has been recognized with numerous awards from AERA and AECT, including multiple Outstanding Publication awards, the Crystal award, the Best Practice award, the Immersive Learning award, and the Young Researcher award. A prominent innovator, he co-invented a patented Augmented Reality system for bilingual language learning and also developed registered technologies such as the AR-PA (Augmented Reality Pedagogical Agent) system. Collaborative projects with his students have resulted in the RAMI (Regulatory Advisor for Motivation Inhibition) motivational chatbot and CAPSULE (Course Activity Pulse for Students' Understanding of Learning Ecology), a tool for visually analyzing online learning experiences. His excellence in this field was further recognized by the 2023 USF Innovation in Online Design and Teaching Award. Beyond research, Dr. Park is a dedicated mentor who has guided approximately 30 doctoral and 200 master students toward careers in EdTech and academia. He emphasizes a research-to-practice approach, co-authoring papers with over 20 graduate students. His leadership extends to community service as a judge for the Florida Invention Convention and the Hillsborough STEM Fair, as well as presenting at the Annual Innovation Education Summit. Through his scholarship, commercialization efforts, and community service, Dr. Park fosters a culture of innovation that benefits both his students and the broader society.
