Dr. Sophia Han is an Associate Professor of the Early Childhood Education and Teacher Education program in the Department of Teaching and Learning, College of Education. Dr. Han's scholarship reflects a collaborative scholar engaging in community and school-based partnerships and a tireless advocate for responsive early childhood education. One research strand involves critical inquiry-oriented and socio-culturally responsive early childhood teacher education, where she critically examines early childhood teacher education programs' roles in preparing pre-service teachers for socially just and responsive teaching. Another strand addresses cultural and global perspectives on early childhood education, where she explores how educating young children and supporting their families can be done through a socio-culturally responsive framework. The last strand focuses on advocacy for Asian American children and families in early childhood education, where she created a national Suda research team to address the needs of Asian American children and families and advocate for culturally responsive and sustaining research approaches. She received several awards, including the 2013 Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award from USF and the 2018 Taylor & Francis Outstanding Early Childhood Teacher Educator Award from the National Association of Early Childhood Teacher Educators (NAECTE). Most recently, she received the 2024 Phillip C.
