Kyle Reed
Associate Professor
Dr. Kyle Reed is an associate professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at USF. His research focuses on rehabilitation and haptics (the sense of touch). His rehabilitation research focuses on restoring abilities in individuals with asymmetric impairments, such as from stroke or unilateral amputations. His research on Haptics focuses on thermal responses of the skin, coordinated motions, and human-robot interaction. He has received funding from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the Florida High Tech Corridor, the Orthotic and Prosthetic Education and Research Foundation, the American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association, and industry. Dr. Reed has published over 75 peer-reviewed conference and journal papers as well as over 40 published abstracts and invited presentations. He is an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Haptics and is a IEEE Senior Member. Dr. Reed has been a member of the USF chapter of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) executive committee since 2016 and served as President in 2018. He was recently awarded NAI Senior Member status as one of 66 in the inaugural class. He has 17 patents issued or pending, and three of them have been licensed with the intention for commercialization. Prior to USF, he was a post-doctoral scholar at Johns Hopkins University. He received his Ph.D. and Masters from Northwestern University and his B.S. from the University of Tennessee, all in Mechanical Engineering.
