Jeffrey Cunningham
Associate Professor
Jeffrey Cunningham, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of South Florida (USF). He earned his B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from Rice University (magna cum laude), his M.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Stanford University, and his Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Stanford University. He is a member of Tau Beta Pi and Phi Beta Kappa scholastic honor societies, and is a Charter Member of USF's chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. His research encompasses multiple aspects of Environmental Engineering, including treatment of contaminated soil and water, contaminant fate and transport in the environment, geologic sequestration of carbon dioxide for mitigation of global climate change, and recovery of energy and resources from solid and liquid waste streams. He has authored or co-authored nearly 50 papers that have been published in peer-reviewed scientific journals. He currently serves as an Associate Editor of the ASCE Journal of Environmental Engineering and as a member of the Board of Advisors for the Environmental Engineering academic program at the United States Military Academy (West Point). Previously, he served for four years as a member of the doctoral dissertation award committee of the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors (AEESP), including two years as chairperson of the committee. He has reviewed manuscripts for over 40 different scientific journals, including Water Research, Environmental Science & Technology, and Applied Catalysis B Environmental. He was the recipient of the Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award from USF for the 2008-09 academic year. He is co-author of a paper that won the Best Paper Award from the Environmental Engineering Division at the 2013 conference of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE).
