Steven Wilson

Professor

Steven R. Wilson is a professor in the Department of Communication at USF as well as affiliated research scientist with the Military Family Research Institute at Purdue University. Prior to joining USF in 2018, he was a faculty member at Michigan State, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, and Purdue Universities. His research and teaching focus on interpersonal and family communication. Much of his recent research has explored difficult conversations as well as resilience in military families when service members return home from overseas deployment or separate from the military. In three decades, he has served as advisor for 27 PhD students who are now pursuing their own (non)academic careers. He is a fellow of the International Communication Association (ICA), Distinguished Scholar in the National Communication Association, and a former co Editor-In-Chief for the ICA journal Human Communication Research.
