Dezhi Yin

Associate Professor

Dezhi (Denny) Yin is an Associate Professor and Muma Fellow in the School of Information Systems and Management, Muma College of Business, University of South Florida. He earned a PhD in IT management from the Georgia Institute of Technology. His research interests include feelings (that can be affective or cognitive, expressed or experienced) in online environments, user-generated content (e.g., online word-of-mouth), and AI-generated content (e.g., chatbots). As an interdisciplinary researcher, he has collaborated with scholars from marketing, strategy/entrepreneurship and organizational behavior in addition to information systems. His primary expertise in methodology is laboratory experimentation, but as a strong proponent of triangulation, he strives to use multiple studies and multiple methods (such as field experiments, econometric analyses, surveys, and machine learning) to produce more reliable and valid reliable findings. His research has appeared in premier academic journals such as MIS Quarterly (MISQ), Information Systems Research (ISR), the Journal of Marketing Research, the Academy of Management Journal, Production and Operations Management, and others. His research has received several awards, including ISR's Best Paper Runner-up Award in 2023, the Emerald Citations of Excellence Award in 2017, the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP)'s William A. Owens Scholarly Achievement Award in 2021, the Conference on Information Systems and Technology (CIST)'s Best Paper Runner-up Award in 2017, the Workshop on E-Business (WeB)'s Best Paper Award in 2020 and 2024, etc. His research has been covered in Wall Street Journal, Forbes, and other media outlets. He has received the Association for Information Systems (AIS) Mid-Career Award in 2024 and the INFORMS Information Systems Society (ISS) Sandra A. Slaughter Early Career Award in 2021. He is a recipient of the Outstanding Associate Editor Award from MIS Quarterly (2024) and Reviewer of the Year Awards from both MISQ (2017) and ISR (2021). He is currently serving as an Associate Editor for MIS Quarterly.
