James Stock

Distinguished University Professor

Dr. James R. Stock is Distinguished University Professor and Monica Wooden Endowed Professor of Supply Chain Management in the USF Muma College of Business. In 2016-17, he also served as the Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Business and Economics at the Hanken School of Economics in Helsinki, Finland. Dr. Stock is one of the world's leading authorities on reverse logistics-and is in fact recognized as the founder of that field. Reverse logistics is a sub-field of Supply Chain Management, and Dr. Stock's work over the past 40 years has made this field a major focus of research and scholarship around the world and provided global leadership and education in sustainable reverse logistics operations-an issue of global economic concern. He has authored more than 150 publications, research books, and several college textbooks. His textbooks have been published in several languages, including Chinese, Russian, Czech, and Portuguese. For this work, he has received some of the field's top prizes, including two from SOLE, The International Society of Logistics: the Armitage Medal, recognizing individuals whose published books and technical papers have improved and increased the general body of knowledge of the science of logistics; and the Eccles Medal, recognizing outstanding achievements in logistics education. He has also received the Lifetime Achievement Award and Reverse Logistics Educator of the Year Award from the Reverse Logistics Association; Special Life Time Logistics Service Award from Yasar University and the IX International Logistics and Supply Chain Congress, Izmir, Turkey; Distinguished Service Award from the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP), and Member of the CSCMP Hall of Fame, among others. Over his career, he has been editor of three of the leading logistics and supply chain journals in the discipline: Journal of Business Logistics; International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management; and Logistics Spectrum. He earned his B.S. and MBA from the University of Miami (FL), and his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University.
