Rachel May
Associate Professor
Rachel A. May is an Associate Professor in the department of Humanities and Cultural Studies at USF. She came to USF in 2009 in order to lead the Institute for the Study of Latin America and the Caribbean, where she served as the Director for 9 years. Before coming to USF, she spent 17 years at the University of Washington, Tacoma where she was deeply involved in building a new university. Her background is in Latin American studies and international human rights. She has published numerous articles, in both the United States and Latin America, and she has two published book monographs (Terror in Countryside, Ohio University Press; and Caribbean Revolutions (co-authored), Cambridge University Press), and two co-edited volumes ((Un)Civil Societies, Lexington Press, and La Florida (University Press of Florida). La Florida won the gold medal for Florida nonfiction in 2014. She has spent her career researching and teaching about human rights and peace building. Her current Fulbright Scholar grant is her third.
