Lei Wang

Assistant Professor

Dr. Lei Wang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular Pharmacology and Physiology at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine. She received her Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry from the University of Mississippi in 2012. She then did her postdoctoral training in Molecular Pharmacology and Physiology at the University of South Florida College of Medicine from 2014-2018. In 2018, Dr. Wang received the American Heart Association Career Development Award (CDA) and was promoted to Assistant Professor. Dr. Wang has considerable expertise studying the mechanism of ischemia reperfusion in the stimulation of kidney graft dysfunction and long-term kidney graft survival. Her outstanding work in this field made her secure a R01 from the NIH in 2020 and a Small Business Technology Transfer grant from NIDDK in 2021. Dr. Wang has received many awards including the Outstanding Postdoctoral Scholar Poster Award at USF, a Travel Award of Epithelial Transport Group of the American Physiological Society in 2018 and APS travel awards for the Emerging Kidney Physiologists basic science meeting in 2019 and the Renal Section Research Recognition Award in 2020. She is also contributing to the overall goals of our society: she currently serves on the Renal Section Awards Committee and early career editorial board of AJP-Renal Physiology.
