Robert Karam

Assistant Professor

Dr. Karam is an assistant professor in the department of computer science and engineering, and was formerly a biomedical research engineer with the Advanced Platform Technology Center, L. Stokes Cleveland VA Hospital (Cleveland, OH, USA). He graduated with a Ph.D. degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Florida in 2017. Upon joining USF, Dr. Karam established the Interface Research Lab (IRL), a group focused on transdisciplinary and cross-cutting research in the areas of hardware security and bioimplantables. He has over 40 peer-reviewed publications in top journals and conferences, as well as several patents. Dr. Karam has received multiple accolades, including a Best Paper Award at the IEEE Biomedical Circuits and Systems (BioCAS) conference, and he has been invited to present his work on bioimplantables and hardware security around the world. His research is funded by the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and the Florida Department of Education. He is the Advisor for the IEEE Computer Society student branch chapter at USF and is a Senior Member of the IEEE.
