Janelle Wells
Associate Professor
Love, learn, lead, and lift are hallmarks of Dr. Wells' life. Through her love of sport, Dr. Wells earned a collegiate athletic scholarship, progressed into collegiate coaching, and then transcended into the private sector before transitioning into higher education at UF, FSU, and the USF. As a lifelong learner, Dr. Wells' lived experience in the male-prevalent industry of sport and entertainment stimulated her research in organizational behavior, specifically leadership development and gender equity, which has been published in outlets such as theJournal of Sport Management,Leadership & Organizational Development Journal, and Journal of Intercollegiate Sport. For her impactful research, Dr. Wells was honored as a 2021 North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM) Research Fellow. In addition to Dr. Wells' 100-plus published works and presentations, she has put theory into practice,co-founding WellsQuest to help organizations reinvest in work that matters, specifically from a talent development and DEIB perspective. In 2015, she partnered with the National Hockey League's Tampa Bay Lightning to create the Lightning Leadership Line a personal and professional development initiative. In 2020, she became a founding Research Fellow of Wasserman's The Collective Think Tank, the first-of-its-kind initiative partnering scholars, brands, properties, and media to share insights to drive real action toward a world of parity. Lifting with her servant heart, Dr. Wells finds fulfillment serving her community and institution. As the Muma DEI Committee Chair, she delivered a strategic road map and was an instrumental content creator and instructor of the award-winning USF DEI in the Workplace Certificate that has reached over 350K participants worldwide. As an Associate Professor/Director of Talent and Culture in Vinik Sport & Entertainment Management Program, Wells is committed to developing students for the workforce reaching a 98% job placements rate. As a founding board member of Women in Sports and Events (WISE) Tampa Bay and the WISE Within Chair, she empowers the next generation of women in sports. Dr. Wells' most meaningful purpose is raising three active young boys with her partner.
