Donna McDermott
Professor
Donna McDermott Ph.D., RN, C.H.S.E-A. joined the University of South Florida College of Nursing in November 2022 as a professor of nursing and associate dean of simulation and experiential learning. She holds a B.S.N. from the University of Pittsburgh, an M.S.N. from Robert Morris University, and a Ph.D. in nursing from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She has been an advocate for simulation learning and an active member of the professional simulation community for over 14 years. McDermott is currently a guest associate editor for a special issue on Clinical Decision Making for the Clinical Simulation in Nursing Journal. In addition, she is an Advanced Certified Health Care Simulation Educator (CHSE-A) through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) and serves as a simulation accreditation site reviewer and co-lead conference content reviewer for their international meeting in 2024. She was a member for six years on the Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice Committee for the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) where she wrote a new simulation standard of best practice titled Prebriefing: Preparation and Briefing and worked on revision of the Simulation Design Standard. She was recently recognized for this effort at the INACSL Conference in June 2023 as a celebrated recipient of the "Best Practice Innovator" Excellence Award. She was nominated by her simulation peers for her leadership, contribution, and mentorship in the simulation community. McDermott has published and presented internationally, nationally, and regionally on simulation best practices, prebriefing, and simulation design.
