Bogdan Onac

Professor

Bogdan P. Onac is a professor in the School of Geosciences in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of South Florida. His research is primarily focused on reconstructing climate and paleoenvironmental changes by studying ice, guano, and speleothems from various cave and karst deposits. To answer his research questions, he employs mineralogy, stable and radiogenic isotope geochemistry. His publishing record includes over 175 articles and 10 books. One significant aspect of his current research is the contribution of data related to past sea-level elevations during both warmer and colder periods in Earth's history. He achieves this by analyzing carbonate encrustations from littoral caves. More recently, he has taken on a challenging project aimed at unraveling the history of the Greenland Ice Sheet by examining cave carbonates found in the northeastern part of this remote region. As Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Speleology, he has played a key role in advancing global karst research.
