Murat Munkin

Associate Professor

Murat Khairzhan-uli Munkin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of South Florida. His general research interests are in applied Bayesian Microeconometrics with emphasis to applications in empirical Health Economics. He graduated from the Department of Mechanics and Mathematics of Moscow State University in 1993. He received his PhD in Economics (Econometrics) from Indiana University in 2001. He worked as an Assistant and Associate Professor in the University of Tennessee, a visiting scholar in the University of Qatar and the Islamic Development Bank in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He has published in the top field journals including Journal of Econometrics, The Econometrics Journal, Journal of Business and Economic Statistics, Journal of Applied Econometrics, Journal of Econometric Methods and Health Economics. Murat Munkin has served on numerous PhD dissertation committees and has been the main advisor to 7 PhD students, with two students receiving PhD dissertation grants from EuroQol Research Foundation. According to Google Scholar Citations he was ranked 48th among all Bayesian econometricians around the world registered with Google Scholar as of January 2025. Murat Munkin has been selected to be a US Fulbright scholar visiting KIMEP University in Kazakhstan between January and June of 2025.
