Brad Seibel
Professor
Dr. Brad Seibel is Professor of Biological Oceanography working at the University of South Floridas College of Marine Science. He applies principles of ecology & evolution with physiological approaches to global change biology and natural ecosystem. He studies organisms across size, depth, latitudinal and phylogenetic lines, from the smallest zooplankton to the giant squids, from the poles to the equator and from the deep-sea to the coastal habitats. He strives to integrate across levels of organization, from molecule to ecosystems. His principal focus is on oxygen relationships, which are critical to performance and survival of animals in all environments. His work is highly integrative, combining detailed physiological measurements with integrative modeling approaches designed to predict how the changing oxygen levels in the oceans will impact the physiological capacities and, thus, the distributions and performance of marine species. Before joining USF as a Professor in 2016, he received his PhD from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1998 and worked as a postdoctoral associate at the University of Miami's Rosenstiel School for Marine and Atmospheric Science and the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute.
