Associate Professor

Elimarys Perez-Colon, MD is a distinguished Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine (USF MCOM), Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine-Pediatrics residency, and Chief of Internal Medicine at Tampa General Hospital. Born and raised in Villalba, Puerto Rico, Dr. Perez-Colons journey to medical excellence began at San Juan Bautista School of Medicine, followed by her residency at USF. Since joining USF in 2009, Dr. Perez-Colon has made transformative contributions in academic medicine, health disparities, and global health. She has provided compassionate care to underserved populations through her work as an academic hospitalist, leadership at multiple free clinics, and global health projects. Her efforts span Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Panama, Colombia, Peru, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Jamaica, where she has led disaster relief and provided care. Her notable achievements include co-founding USF's COVID-19 virtual clinic, the CoCo Clinic, during the pandemic, and being a dual recipient of the USF Culture Champion Award Coin - first in 2020 for her work with the CoCo Clinic, and again in 2025 for her global health mentorship in Medellin, Colombia, as the main faculty mentor for the International Health Service Collaborative (IHSC). In 2025, Dr. Perez-Colon was honored with the prestigious Brendan P. Kelly Award by the Alliance of Academic Internal Medicine and the Med-Peds Program Directors Association. This award recognizes her exemplary leadership, compassionate patient care, and educational excellence, particularly her impact on advancing the Medicine-Pediatrics residency at USF. Her scholarly pursuits span global health, social determinants of health, disaster relief, and innovations in medical education, including the integration of artificial intelligence and medical Spanish to address health disparities.
