Ana Velez
Professor
Ana Paula Velez, MD, is a Professor in the Division of Infectious Disease in the Morsani College of Medicine at the University of South Florida. She completed her medical school studies at CES University Medellin, Colombia, her residency in internal medicine at Hospital Municipal of San Juan, and Orlando Regional Center, and her fellowship in infectious diseases at the University of South Florida. Dr. Velez is a Professor at the University of South Florida and Moffitt Cancer Center. She is the Infectious Diseases leader in Hematology/Oncology at USF. Her main areas of interest are HIV/AIDS in cancer patients and infections in immunosuppressed patients in hematology/ oncology. She also studied art for 7 years in Academia de Arte de Antonio Herrera, Medellin, Colombia, and studied at USF Fine Arts School. She donates her art to diverse charities, including USF Bridge Clinic, St Judes Hospital, USF IHSC for mission trips, Moffitt Cancer for research funds, USF ID Contagion Podcast, and the Infectious Diseases Society of America Foundation. Dr. Velez was recently named Community of Leaders 2025 by the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) and Top Doctors of Tampa Bay 2024 and 2025.
