Aimee Dietz

Associate Professor

Dr. Aimee Dietz (Ph.D., University of Nebraska-Lincoln) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the College of Behavioral and Community Sciences and holds a joint appointment in the Department of Neurology in the Morsani College of Medicine at USF Health. She is a distinguished speech-language pathologist whose work integrates clinical expertise and translational neuroimaging research to advance recovery in people with aphasia. She directs the Language Recovery & Communication Technology Lab, which is dedicated to improving communication access and enhancing life participation for people with aphasia through innovative, evidence-based interventions. For over two decades, she has led pioneering research on augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) as a catalyst for language recovery, identifying neurobiomarkers of AAC-induced change and expanding its delivery through teletherapy in post-stroke care. She also investigates holistic, mind-body approaches, including adapted yoga, to enhance resilience in individuals with aphasia and their care partners. A committed mentor, she has guided nearly 80 students across undergraduate honors projects, senior theses, masters theses, doctoral dissertations, postdoctoral fellowships, and junior faculty development, as well as participants in national mentoring initiatives. She previously served as Program Director at the University of Cincinnati for five years and as Department Chair at Georgia State University for three years before joining USF to focus on research and teaching. Her contributions to the field have earned awards from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and multiple honors from the University of Cincinnati. Before earning her Ph.D., she worked in diverse clinical settings with patients across the lifespan - experiences that continue to drive her dedication to developing and advancing approaches to improve life participation for people with post-stroke aphasia.
