Luanna B. Prevost

Associate Professor

Luanna Prevost, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Integrative Biology in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of South Florida. Her research is focused on improving biology and ecology education through examining student conceptual understanding and faculty teaching practices. Prevosts research group has investigated student thinking about key biology and ecology concepts through examining student writing. Her work also explores how faculty adopt evidence-based teaching practices such as active learning and community engaged learning. She has led several faculty professional development initiatives, including faculty mentoring networks and workshops on improving ecology education at the ESA Annual Meeting and other conferences. She is committed to broadening participation in ecology and in STEM more broadly through her involvement with the UNIDE network, an NSF Scholarship in STEM (S-STEM) program at USF and the Ecological Society of Americas (ESA) SEEDS Program. Additionally, she leads opportunities for high school teacher and students in ecology and field botany and serves as Site Director of the Amgen Biotech Experience Tampa program. She is dedicated to advancing ecology education and has served as Chair of ESAs 4DEE Subcommittee and as a member of the ESA Education Committee.
