Nima Karimian
Assistant Professor
Dr. Nima Karimian is an Assistant Professor at the University of South Floridas Bellini College of Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Computing. He brings an interdisciplinary expertise that spans trustworthy AI, hardware security, and machine learning, positioning him at the forefront of the universitys mission to advance secure and resilient technology. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Connecticut in 2018. Prior to his tenure at USF, he established a distinguished track record of academic leadership as an Assistant Professor at West Virginia University and San Jose State University. At both institutions, he served as the Lead Principal Investigator for dedicated research labs, driving innovation in secure systems. His research program addresses the critical intersection of hardware security and biometric AI. His work is dedicated to bridging the gaps in security, privacy, and fairness elements essential for the global adoption of AI systems, particularly within the sensitive domain of healthcare. He is a recipient of the prestigious National Science Foundation (NSF) Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award, a testament to his leadership in the field. His academic excellence has also been recognized with the Faculty Award for Excellence in Scholarship from the SJSU Charles W. Davidson College of Engineering in 2021, and his research has earned multiple best paper awards and nominations at premier international conferences.
