Andrea Efre

Associate Professor

Dr. Andrea Efre is an Associate Professor in the graduate programs for the College of Nursing at the University of South Florida. She holds a Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) from Case Western Reserve University, is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C), and is a recognized speaker, clinician, and scholar. With over two decades of experience, her work has advanced nurse practitioner (NP) education and clinical practice. She is a sought-after national speaker whose work has consistently focused on advancing clinical competence in cardiovascular care and substance use. She is widely regarded for her expertise in cannabinoid pharmacology and its intersection with patient management, translating emerging and complex science into practical, evidence-based strategies for clinical care. She serves as the only NP member of the Consortium for Medical Marijuana Clinical Outcomes Research, contributing clinical expertise to the CARMMA database to advance rigorous, evidence-based understanding of medical marijuana outcome. Dr Efre has demonstrated sustained leadership within the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN), including founding and leading a local chapter, serving in a leadership role in the national organization, and contributing to organizational initiatives. Her scholarship includes peer-reviewed publications, textbook chapter authorship, and simulation-based learning cases adopted by graduate nursing programs and healthcare systems across the United States. In addition to her academic role, she continues clinical practice as a volunteer nurse practitioner at the Judeo Christian Health Clinic, providing care to underserved populations. She is also committed to mentorship, guiding students, faculty, and practicing NPs in scholarship, presentation, and leadership development. Dr. Efre's sustained contributions have had a measurable national impact on NP education, practice, and patient outcomes. She was selected as a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP), an honor recognizing her outstanding contributions to the profession.
