Dr. Kai Wu is a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of South Florida. Before joining USF, he was a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas Tech University. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Minnesota in 2017 under the mentorship of Dr. Jian-Ping Wang and subsequently continued there as a postdoctoral researcher until 2022. He earned his bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Northwestern Polytechnical University in China in 2013. Dr. Wus research integrates magnetic nanomaterials, spintronic devices, and bioelectronic systems to advance next-generation biomedical diagnostics, imaging, and therapeutic technologies. His lab conducts research in magnetic nanomaterials and spintronic devices for biomedical applications, wearable biosensors, magnetic particle imaging and magnetic resonance imaging, and in-sensor computing and edge artificial intelligence for healthcare systems. Dr. Wu received the National Science Foundation CAREER Award and the Healthcare Young Investigator Award in 2026, as well as several awards from IEEE societies. He serves as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Sensors Journal and IEEE Transactions on Magnetics. He has authored or coauthored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications, holds seven issued patents, and has contributed to one book and nine book chapters.
