Cecile Lengacher

Dr. Cecile Lengacher is an Emeritus Professor and held the Lyall and Beatrice Thompson Nursing Professorship in Oncology at the USF College of Nursing. She serves as a member of the Moffitt Cancer Center Outcomes and Behavioral Program in the Population Sciences Division and a member of the Moffitt Cancer Center T32 Advisory Committee. She is an internationally recognized nurse scientist, with expertise in bio-behavioral clinical trial intervention research including Psycho-Oncology, psychoneuroimmunology, and complementary alternative medicine (CAM) emphasizing the link between physiological and behavioral outcomes for cancer survivors. Her record of external funding and publications have impacted national and international research by translating research into practice for symptom management to improve the quality of life among cancer survivors and caregivers. Her research contributes to the science of psychoneuroimmunology, by analyzing the molecular and biological mechanisms of CAM interventions on natural killer cells, stress hormones, cytokines, telomeres, and genes. She has received multiple awards and honors, and her research and scholarship is widely recognized within nursing, integrative medicine and Psycho-Oncology. Her funding of over $8 million has resulted in over 190 papers published in peer-reviewed journals; and numerous book chapters, monographs, and technical reports on research, education and practice. Recognized as a leader in CAM therapy research, she served as Secretary of the Board of Directors and Director of Research for the American Psycho-Oncology Society. She has held several state, national and international leadership positions, and membership on national and international review panels for the NIH, Behavioral Medicine Intervention Outcomes (BMIO) and National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) panel and Director of the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Integrated Therapy (SIG). As a reviewer for national and international nursing and interdisciplinary journals, she is able to share her knowledge and expertise as a nurse scientist. She is a role model for students and faculty, and actively mentors new scientists. In 2023 she was recognized as one of Stanford University Worlds Top 2% Global Scientists. Dr. Lengacher's contributions and expertise in women's health and oncology are strengths that are important as a Fellow of the American Psychosocial Oncology Society and the American Academy of Nursing.
