Sandra Gompf

Professor

Sandra Gompf is Professor of Medicine at the University of South Florida, where she received her medical degree and completed Internal Medicine residency and Infectious Diseases fellowship. She was appointed Chief of the Infectious Diseases Section at James A. Haley Veterans Hospital in Tampa, Florida in 1999. She has served as VA Site Director for the USF ID Fellowship Program for over 20 years, where she expanded funded fellowship positions and continues to grow learning experiences for USF trainees. Dr. Gompf is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine with additional subspecialty certification in Infectious Diseases. She is a member of numerous organizations, including the HIV Medicine Association and was elected Fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America and the American College of Physicians. She is author of a study guide, Gompf's ID Pearls, and curates an educational reference site for healthcare trainees at GompfsIDPearls.net. In addition to medical literature, her scholarly activities include numerous contributions to Medscape Reference, WebMD, and book chapters. She is Associate Editor for Elsevier IDCases. She has served as co-investigator on several federal and pharmaceutical grants. She directs and fundraises for the USF Philip T. Gompf Memorial Fund in support of the Summer is Amoeba Season Campaign educating the public about preventable waterborne infections. She is the recipient of several honors and awards including the Outstanding Teaching Attending award for Infectious Diseases, Best Doctors in America, and Healio Honors. As Chief of Infectious Diseases at the Tampa VA, Dr. Gompf has cultivated a thriving educational program for housestaff, medical students, and ID clinical pharmacy trainees that is a point of pride and attracts a growing following.
