Charles J. Lockwood

Charles J. Lockwood, MD, MHCM, is the Executive Vice President for USF Health and Dean of the Morsani College of Medicine. At USF Health, Dr. Lockwood leads the Morsani College of Medicine and the Taneja College of Pharmacy, and the Colleges of Nursing and Public Health, as well as the School of Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Sciences and Graduate Biomedical Sciences. He also oversees the USF Health faculty group practice, which with more than 1,000 providers is one of the largest multispecialty practices in Florida. Dr. Lockwood also serves as a professor in the Morsani College of Medicine Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and holds a secondary appointment as a professor in the USF Health College of Public Health. Lockwood assumed all these leadership roles when he joined USF Health in May 2014 and has served as an EVP at Tampa General Hospital (TGH) since 2015. Dr. Lockwood is an internationally recognized health care and research leader who earned a Sc.B., magna cum laude, with distinction, from Brown University, his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, and his Master of Science in Health Care Management degree from the Harvard School of Public Health. He served his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Pennsylvania Hospital and his fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at the Yale-New Haven Hospital. Dr. Lockwood is the recipient of multiple research grant awards from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the March of Dimes and other foundations. He has authored over 315 peer-reviewed publications and another 300 editorials, invited reviews, and textbook chapters. He has co-authored 3 monographs and co-edited 7 major textbooks, 3 with multiple editions. Dr. Lockwood's research interests include the prevention of preterm delivery. He is an elected member of AAAS and the National Academy of Medicine.
