Charles Cox

Professor

Following undergraduate and medical school training at the University of Utah, Dr. Charles Cox completed his surgical residency and two years of surgical oncology fellowship at Duke University. He began his career at the University of South Florida in 1983. The Comprehensive Breast Cancer Program at the University of South Florida was initiated in 1984 under his direction. In 1986, he moved the program to the Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute at the University of South Florida. He has been recognized within the local and national press and was honored by his colleagues as a doctor's doctor. He is listed in Who's Who in America and sited in the Best Doctors in America, Southeast Region. In 1999 he was named as the Moffitt Cancer Center Physician of the Year. He and his colleagues spearheaded the research and training in the technique for Lymphatic Mapping and Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy in breast cancer patients. Along with the pathology colleagues, they developed the Intra-Operative Touch Preparation Cytology for the evaluation of surgical margins. With these techniques, they have experienced high success rates in breast conservation and lymph node sparing.
