Amber Gum

Associate Professor

Dr. Amber Gum was awarded a Fulbright Scholar Award for travel and study in 2016. Affiliated with Bar-Ilan University, in the Louis and Gabi Weisfeld School of Social Work where she will engage in research and training, Dr. Gum will pilot-test a behavioral intervention designed to benefit migrant home care workers and their care recipients. Dr. Gum is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mental Health Law & Policy in the College of Behavioral and Community Sciences. Her research focuses on mental health service utilization and delivery for older adults with depression. She conducts collaborative, community-based research to integrate mental health services into non-specialty settings and to improve collaboration among professionals working across service sectors. She currently has a grant from the Retirement Research Foundation to implement a holistic senior wellness program in faith-based settings in collaboration with five local predominantly African-American churches. She also has a grant from the Institute for Optimal Aging to study decision-making related to moving to continuing care retirement communities. Dr. Gum also has received external funding from NIMH and SAMHSA.
