Cheryl Vamos
Associate Professor
Dr. Cheryl Vamos is an Associate Professor, the Director of USF's Center of Excellence in Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Education, Science and Practice, (one of thirteen centers funded by MCHB/HRSA), and a Fellow with the Chiles Center for Women, Children and Families within the College of Public Health (COPH) at USF. Dr. Vamos also serves as a faculty collaborator with the Florida Perinatal Quality Collaborative (FPQC) and the Co-Chair for the Perinatal and Women's Health Committee, within the MCH Section of the American Public Health Association. The overall goal of Dr. Vamos' work is to facilitate the translation of MCH evidence into practice for patients, providers, and women at-large. Within the broad field of MCH, the majority of projects focus on women's health, reproductive health and MCH oral health, and employ implementation science, health literacy, and technology approaches to ensure that women and providers have the knowledge, skills and resources needed to be empowered and make informed health decisions. Dr. Vamos' current research is guided by theoretical frameworks, employs various quantitative/qualitative methodologies, includes primary and secondary data sources, and comprises interdisciplinary team members (e.g., public health, medicine, dentistry, community partners). She is also passionate about and values having undergraduate/graduate students and postdoctoral scholars on her research teams. In 2018, she received the Dean's Inaugural Excellence in Teaching Award within USF COPH. Prior to coming back to academia, Dr. Vamos served as a Director of Epidemiology, Research and Evaluation in a local health department in Ontario, Canada. She received her PhD and MPH from USF; and BSc (Honours) in Nutritional and Nutraceutical Sciences from the University of Guelph in Canada.
